1940 Buick speedometer question

My car is in the shop and I have gotten fuzzy on what the indicator light does on the 110 mph speedometer at the top between the 50 and 60 marks.  What does this indicate? My mechanic is working on the wiring and I don’t know if I ever knew its purpose so i cant tell him what it is, nor do any of the books I have, show it.   At the bottom of the gauge there are words that say bright lights so that must not be it, unless it lights up in addition to the words “bright lights”.  It is some sort of idiot light but I cant tell him because it don't remember or never saw it working.  Maybe the idiot light comes on when it knows I’m the one holding the steering wheel!

Anyway if you know, I would appreciate your response so he can get on to the next thing.

thanks , Phil
