George Rohrbach
Has anyone replaced the studs (as in manifold) with stainless? Or some othertype besides stock, for corrosion control? I know it might be overkill, butdon't you just hate to see a beautiful engine compartment (not my car) thatafter running for a bit, looks like this? The nuts are brass. nearchoclatetown
my opinion is stainless hardware sucks. i have to use it everyday at my real job because of food. even with neversieze it still gaulds[sp?] and snaps off. make or buy new studs. i made some for my 24 DB from an alloy called B-7. it's kind of heat-treated but not brittle. used them for head studs. Guest DeSoto Frank
George,I've tried using stainless-steel bolts for cylinder head bolts on Gravely Model "L" tractors (which employed a one-cylinder "T"-head engine, air-cooled), as the regular hardened bolts used to seize in the block and would rust to the point where there was no "hex" left to the bolt-head due to heat oxidation. The stainless bolts would discolor and eventually seize too...If the studs are going into a water cooled block, they might survive better ?This sounds like a good question for the local nut & bolt wholesaler? Guffin
Three years ago I put stainless steel studs for the exhaust manifold in my 1929 Hupmobile. They still look nice after 5000 miles.Jan
