Killshot169
Is there a difference in the size of the air cleaner for a 320 roadmaster vs the smaller 248 engine? thank you for the info
61polara
Yes, they are totally different in size and the way they mount. The 320 mounts along side the valve cover while the 248 air cleaner mounts across the valve cover.
Killshot169
61polara, thank you for your insight. My brother happens to have two air cleaner assemblies that appear similar in design except the tubular mid section has two lengths, 6 and 7 inches. So I am still a bit confused as to why the mid sections vary in size. Which is proper for the 47 roadmaster? thank you for the quick response . Killshot169
1939_buick, Thank you very much. photos do make it very clear the 320 And 248 air cleaner assemblies are very different just as 61polara said. I’ll ask my brother to remeasure both units. stay safe, Killshot169
Killshot169
The round silencer section of the two assemblies were remeasured and one was 5.5” and the other 7”. I have ruled out the 248 as you have educated me on( thank you). Checking with a few other Buick owners looks like the 320 engine in 47 and 48 used the 5.5” silencer. I am still trying to figure out what year or other cars would use the 7” unit.? Maybe Buick years before or after 47-48 or other vehicles, Pontiac, olds, caddy Hudson or packer? Any thoughts? thank you.
