John DePrey
A fellow member (Milo G) is trying to repair his '41 brakes, looking for best source for shoes or liners, also any recommended brake shops/techs in Tacoma area that might be familiar. Gary_Ash
The 1941 Commander shoes are the same as the ones used in M5 trucks. Part numbers were 676578 and 676580, but different numbers used now. Relined shoes are available in stock from Studebaker International ($109/axle set) or Studebakerparts.com ($105/axle set). However, you have to send them your old shoes first because of the shortage of good cores. When they get your old shoes, they'll send relined ones. John DePrey
good info Gary, I would presume these vendors are using top notch liner material. I'll mention it.
rbk
Most relined shoes use a very hard lining that has no asbestos in it. These linings are so hard that it takes a lot of effort to stop your car. Try to find original asbestos lining if you can find an old time shop to rivet the linings or try to find N.O.S shoes. stude24
Not sure if this is anything you might be interested in but I have an older set of NAPA brake linings for 1938-1942 Commanders. These would likely be from the 1950/60's. Does not include the rivets, which should be available from various vendors. These have been sold and are no longer available.
