Guest SalG (Sal Grenci)
The past two days my www.McAfee.com Personal Firewall has been going crazy. The little warning box comes up every few seconds with a new IP address. They seem to like TCP port 1588. What is 1588 that the hackers go for that one the most? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/icons/confused.gif" alt="" />
Bill Stoneberg
Hackers dont necessarly like port 1588 the most, they are just looking for a way into your computer. At the moment, 1588 is a popular port because there is a script designed to use that port. If you have a cable or DSL connection you should protect yourself. One of the ways to do this is with a firewall like the one Sal uses or a free one called Zone Alarm . This will keep the people who want in your computer out. Easy enough to set up and configure and it doesn't affect your use of windows at all.Of course to be safer, get rid of windows and go to a real operating system. Mac's are good and Linux is good, but that is my prejeduce showing. I am on a Windows system right now, so I can't always follow my own advice. R W Burgess
Gosh Bill, You want me to trash this system for something else? It took me 5 years to learn how to operate windows. You know the "old dogs/new tricks?".........me in spades. Wayne
