West Peterson
I'm interested in any advice in removing the steering column from a 1930 Packard. Ultimately, I need to have the steering box rebuilt, but I'd like to know how to remove the horn button, light/throttle rods, steering wheel, and column itself. West Peterson
I talked with Gary Marchetti in California. He said if I don't have to remove the steering wheel itself, it's all quite easy to disassemble.
edinmass
West......like most other big Classic's, the center levers and hub are pot metal and bakelight, and can brake easily. I haven't done a box on a 1930, buy usually it best to set them up on the bench, and not in the car. We have done more than 100 boxes at the shop with the worm project we did, so if you need any help, just give me a ring. Best, Ed
West Peterson
Appreciate that, Ed. I was told the box removes relatively easy from the column, and the steering wheel controls easily slide straight out once disconnected from the box. edinmass
On the GM and Pierce cars there are a bunch of nasty copper bushings made of thin metal that cause lots of headaches..........it comes apart very easy........going back together is a different story. 👍
