Mystery 1920s touring car

A photo taken in New Zealand. The licence plate dates it to be tween mid 1925 and mid 1926.

 

Been trying to read on the radiator - ??? Six?

1925 Hupmobile... usually an 8 but script reads 6, so I guess it is a 6.

The sign in the window says "EMM'S MOTOR SERVICE", which perhaps indicates it is being used as a service car = long distance passenger vehicle.

Yes, the fact it was a service car was not in doubt. I was surprised to see the Six badge on the radiator. I have seen the eights with their badge but not sixes. I think it must have only been used for a short time as the later sixes don't usually have it.

 

The Hup six engine is not very big - only about 200 cid from memory. I reckon they would have found the car not up the job as a service car in the way the more common Hudsons and Cadillacs (and the Buicks and Studebakers that some used)  were.

I think we have seen another NZ photo of Hupmobiles being unwrapped from their boxes. I think they were complete but sitting on their brake backing plates with the wheels inside or somewhere.
