WHMitchell
Does anyone know if a 1953 Oldsmobile 98 had a larger interior than the Olds 88? I know they both used the same body structure and that the 98 was a longer version. I am just trying to figure out if all the length went behind the rear axle or if there was additional length added between the axles, resulting in a larger interior (and longer dash to rear axle length). Thank you.
Oldsfan
I believe the 98 had a longer wheelbase than the 88, as well as a longer trunk section.
PONTIAC1953
the longer body and frame, i owned a 54 olds 98 sedan with a 126 inch wheelbase, two inches longer than the 1953 olds 98's 124 inch wheelbase. i did some checking with oldsmobile people, seems the 98 does have longer rear doors and rear floor pan, resulting in more rear legroom. joe_padavano
Actually, the wheelbase difference is four inches - 120" for the 88 and 124" for the 98. That difference is pretty much all used for more rear seat legroom.
