'30 door pin removal

SDLARS

Recommended Posts

I bought a door pin removal tool from Mac's designed for Fords with the incorrect assumption that it would work on my Pontiac. Pin heads on my car are much bigger than the Ford's. What have any of you used for this project? I don't think I can do a decent job on the doors and pillars without removing the doors. Maybe I'm wrong? Thanks in advance.

Bob's Automobilia has one, advertised for Buick but the pin size is the same.  Works great. Lots of Buick pieces, especially pieces for Fisher Bodies and many others fit Pontiac.

Sorry., I miss-remembered. I got the hinge pins and hinge mounted mirrors along with other parts from Bob's.

The hinge pin tool that I bought is a 64-64595       V46335PULL      M3H-188-C   Hinge Pin Removal Tool/ 32-48  from  Mac's Antique Auto Parts,  Lockport, NY.

That is what is on the label dated 3/22/2013 on the box that mine came in.  I was too lazy to go out in the garage and check before, sorry.

One website suggests that Mac's is closed and one suggests that there are new owners.    Good Luck.

Just found this in the Fisher body manual. There was a special tool available at one time. Also realized there could be a way to make the Ford tool work (after I sent mine back). If a person placed a spacer, something like a 3/4" nut, over the head of the door pin to start the pin moving I think the tool would work. Might have to make something different for the center hinge on the front doors because of clearance issues.

I just drilled out about 10 pins on my 1928 Pontiac.

I first drilled out a hole smaller that than the entire pin, then I used a punch to knock out the remainder.  This was with the hinge off the door and body.

I tried the eastwood tool, but it didn't work and I returned it.
