Jim65Riv
I see in "Options Not Included" for 68 that 47% of Rivs were equipped with the stainless steel rocker moldings. My question is: are they painted solid black or are the tops of the ribs cleaned off for contrast?
epriv
Jim, the black ribbed molding is mounted to the rockers. The stainless steel trim is mounted above that on the fenders/doors/quarters between the ribbed molding and was sandwiched between the ribbed molding and a strip molding. All cars had the ribbed and strip molding, but the SS trim was an option. (can't find a good picture)
JZRIV
Correct the lower rocker molding on all cars was all black and these are anodized aluminum (at least in 66 they were. The 68 rocker moldings look very close to 66). The optional stainless package was above the lower rocker and extended to front fender and rear quarter panel fore and aft both wheels as shown here. Jim65Riv
Thank, Jason. That's the info I was looking for.
68RIVGS
As Jason has stated the lower ribbed aluminum rocker panel moldings were an anodized solid black finish, and common to all cars which gradually faded with age and road debris damage. The aluminum extrusion ribs were not cleaned off for contrast - they were a solid black. The optional W13 W5 lower stainless trim package was a whopping $42.10 addition to the cost of the car back in '68 !
