JoelsBuicks
The front bumper for my ‘31 8-67 is the two horizontal bar type with three bumperettes (there’s probably a better name but I’m drawing a blank). Pictured below, they show no sign of chrome plating, not even an underlying copper plate. They appear pitted but it doesn’t quite look like rust pits. There is a remnant of old black paint but not sure it’s original. The chrome on the bumper bars was not good but not pitted. Although I have never seen any of these painted, is it possible - has anyone seen these painted? Kind of wanting to avoid another chrome bill but only if appropriate. Thanks, Joel Edited March 26, 2018 by JoelsBuicks (see edit history)
Pete Phillips
Never seen an unpainted one. Perhaps after-market? Chrome plating of bumpers and bumper guards was well established by 1931.
JoelsBuicks
They may very well be aftermarket as I have not seen that sculpted bolt head showing on the chromed ones. Interesting that I have seen at least three different bumper styles for 1931; a one-bar, two-bar, and a three-bar.
Mark Shaw
Yes, they were plated on your series car.
