Guest Engine-Ear
For those reading this thread who have replaced the spongy foam gasket that surrounds the speaker on their '55 (and other years) Buick: - is this gasket available aftermarket? - if so, got any supplier recommendations? - if not, what specific material (and dimensions, if bulk roll material) did you use? Thanks in advance!
Bhigdog
Look in McMaster-Carr. Lots of info and specs on a wide variety of sheet foam. I've used them for any number of foam applications on various cars. Be sure to click on the About Foam tab...........Bob Edited December 11, 2017 by Bhigdog (see edit history)
Beemon
I might be a little confused, do you mean the gasket to the chassis of the radio or the foam that attaches the cone to the chassis of the speaker? Both were paper. Edit: Just realized you must mean the actual foam on the front of the radio chassis. Doh. You could probably just use weatherstrip adhesive. Mine was cracked and damaged, but still in one piece so I let it be when I rebuilt my radio, but I wouldn't hesitate to use a thick piece of weatherstrip. Guest Engine-Ear
Yes, my apologies if that was unclear...I am referring to the external gasket that seals the radio box to the dashboard's speaker grill. Thanks for the tip on McMaster-Carr, Bhigdog. ~Matt
old-tank
Door or trunk weatherstrip will work. Just cut down and glue on. Does not even have to be new.
