Guest loupet
Hello everyone, hope all is good out there. I'm trying to change the air filter but, the 2 phillips screws on top of the box are rusted. 1 is stripped and the other I can't turn to remove the top of the box. I soaked them both with WD40 and, no luck. Is there another way to remove the top or, the box itself? Thanks Edited May 9, 2017 by loupet (see edit history)
Guest HuevosRanchero
I drilled mine out...was able save the threads though.
Guest loupet
Yeah, I think that's the next step. Thanks HR
Barney Eaton
Buy a left hand drill....about 3/16 inch and if you are lucky, it will bite and unscrew the screw...the screw is bad anyway and will need replacing.
Guest loupet
Thanks Barney. Will try that too.
89RedDarkGrey
It's a good idea that when you're done with filter change, and lid & screwed down- pack a blob of grease in each screw hole to keep them from rusting again.

Barney Eaton
They will not be stock but that may be a great place for stainless screws....if we get the size, someone could buy 50-100 and sell them.
89RedDarkGrey
I just lube the threaded hole (nutsert) where they go, then pack a blob of grease on top of the screw head, down in the hole.

AZVET
Move to Arizona where we don't have no stinking rust! But seriously, there are several You Tube videos on this problem. The one I like best is to use a Dremel with a small cutoff blade and saw a slot into the screw head so you can then use a flat blade screwdriver. 89RedDarkGrey
How do you fit a Dremel down into the 5/8" hole where our Airbox screws are located?
