Robert G. Smits
I am back working on my 73 Centurian 455. Approximately 66 K miles and hasn't run since 01. Before starting it up do I need to drop the pan and check for sludge like I always do on the early cars? Also can the pan be removed without dissasembling steering/crossmember components? Thanks, Bob Smits,
SpecialEducation
I would drain the oil, and pay attention to how it flows. If it doesn't seem particularly sludgey, just change it again after a tank of gas.
Smartin
From what I remember, the engine will need to be raised a touch so it will clear the crank. Also the starter needs to come down. Possibly exhaust crossover if it is a single pipe. I can't remember, but the very worst you'd have to do with the steering linkage is disconnect the idler from the frame. It never hurts to do the job.
Robert G. Smits
Thanks, I will feel better if I inspect the pan. Bob Smits
