73 Centurian

I am back working on my 73 Centurian 455.  Approximately 66 K miles and hasn't run since 01.  Before starting it up do I need to drop the pan and check for sludge like I always do on the early cars?  Also can the pan be removed without dissasembling steering/crossmember components?  Thanks, Bob Smits,

From what I remember, the engine will need to be raised a touch so it will clear the crank.  Also the starter needs to come down.  Possibly exhaust crossover if it is a single pipe.  I can't remember, but the very worst you'd have to do with the steering linkage is disconnect the idler from the frame.

It never hurts to do the job.
