Chrysler fender welt stainless

Anyone know where to get correct stainless welting for late 40s Chrysler.

If it's has the round bead like regular welting, Dennis Carpenter Reproductions carries a stainless fender welt with a fabric leg. It can be difficult to form due to it's being formed round.

Yes on a 1946-48 Chrysler with the compound curves at the front of the fender it is rarely successful to bend modern stainless fender welting.

It will kink next to the fabric.

The original welting was a much more malleable type metal bead which did not kink as easy.

A shop which has a 1948 NewYorker 3 pass cpe is currently fighting this issue and won by fixing and re-using the original welting. Replaced the fabric leg.

I wonder if this problem could be solved by making a flat bending jig out of 1/2" or 3/4"plywood, in which the outline from the fender curve is traced onto two pieces of wood; one piece for the "outside" of the curve and another for the "inside" of the curve. The two pieces would be fastened to a backing-board with a narrow gap for the stainless bead in between. Pressing the bead into the groove would "pre-bend" the metal and not allow it to kink. This should (in theory) make it easier to then form the final bend on the car.
