Povertycove
Actually two problems. 1. I had to remove the curved E brake handle, with its pivot spring, near handle and two pawls. I cannot remember how it goes back together. Anyone have a drawing or a photo or a description? 2. Trying to replace the brake band that goes on the drum on the shaft. There is a long tee bolt that holds the brake together. It's about five Inches long...but not enough room on top to pull it through, about two niches between the transmission and the floor. What's the trick?
Joe Cocuzza
Does this help at all?
Povertycove
No, I have that drawing in my manual, but thanks. It's the actual curved handle that I can't figure out. But that T bolt in the drawing is the other problem. There isn't enough clearance above it to draw it out. again, thanks.
JACK M
Maybe take the drive line off and slide the band off and on with the bolt already started. Also I think the whole front floor will come out. I may have a handle if 48 is the same.
Povertycove
Thanks. I figured it out while I closely xamined the tunnel and discovered where someone along the line had drilled a half inch hole above the tee bolt. I removed the filler, pulled the bolt out, and I'll repair the hole with some light gauge metal and a couple of short metal screws. Bad design, really. I'll bet when they assembled the car, the emergency brake assembly was installed before the body trapped it.
