The first thing to know is it Magneto or coil & distributor ignition.

Next, What type of carb doe it have.

Next to clockwork, it is about the simplest car you can have.

If the engine turns, you have petrol in the (carb) float bowl and sparks at the plugs providing the ignition timing is right it should run. Be careful the clutch travel from out to in is about 1/4 to 1/2 an inch.

It looks like a nice unspoils example. What the British call (s)oily rag condition.

Please leave it that way. Certainly tidy it up and as the term suggests give it a rub over with a (slightly) oily rag.  Then enjoy it!

You will gain nothing and possibly lose a lot by tearing it apart and sand blasting the crap out of it. If you can find him talk to Warren Kraft at Coldspring Harbor Long Island. He has two or three including a saloon like yours. The Austin 7 Club in Victoria, Australia has a wonderfull stock of spares and information, look for their web site.

You will need to join before they give very much info away. It will not cost the earth and will be the best investment you can make.
