John R Murray
I ordered to vendor specification, paint for valve/spark plug covers for my '39 Buick and it was shipped as gray when they are currently black. What is correct? Also does anyone know the paint color for the dry air cleaner. It looks like a gun metal type paint - has a nice luster. Thanks, John Edited June 10, 2015 by John R Murray (see edit history)
FLYER15015
John,I'm not sure, but I was told that " replacement motors" were painted black. I saw grey on mine, so I repainted it "battleship" grey. Mike in Colorado
39BuickEight
Gray is original.
Glassesguy
Billy is correct. Engines are all grey including valve and spark plug covers. Air cleaner is not quite gloss black but not quite satin black. Bypass hose and clamps are grey as they were on the engine when it was sprayed in production.Intake manifold is grey. Surprisingly the exhaust manifold caught the grey spray as it was already attached to the intake; obviously the paint burned off quickly.
John R Murray
All, thanks for your help. Everything on the engine is (now was) black. The valve and spark plug covers are now gray. I will leave them that way and eventually hope to do the block gray when (if) I pull the engine.
