steamgas Posted December 31, 2014 Share Posted December 31, 2014 i have a 1940 Buick series 50 with a 248 engine.did this engine come with valve seals?i noticed that the top of the valve steam just under the rocker arm has something made of hard rubber,what is the purpose of this.if valve seales are used please give me the supplier and phone number and a part number would be great also.tex Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

If there is something there on your engine, they were probably added on an old valve job.In my opinion, if the valve stems are within spec and the guides are not worn, seals are not needed.
