jps
I took off the heat riser body from my '29 standard to inspect the tube and I do see some small holes plus a lot of rust, so I'd like to make a new stainless tube to replace the original. I think I read once that someone "pressed in" a new one. Does that mean this tube is just a friction fit? I don't see any other means of attachment. Also, does anyone have dimensions for the original - OD, ID and length? Just in case I can't avoid destroying the old one to get it out.Thanks. AzBob
John, I hope someone who has performed heat riser tube replacement chimes in as well. Will probably have to replace my heat riser tube sometime in the future.Bob
Mark Shaw
John, I used aluminized exhaust tubing from the scrap barrel at a local muffler shop. The aluminized tubing is made for hot exhaust and you can get it for nothing. Just measure the ID of the cast riser to match the OD for the tube. Cut it to length with a pipe cutter so at least one end is slightly tapered to help it into the riser. Use and arbor press and a flat pusher to press it into the riser with lots of lube so you don't crack the riser casting.
