Guest John Spinelli
Thank you. Its a lot of fun. The 6 volt system is a pain in the ass though. Never seems like enough cranking power.
trimacar
On the cranking issue:-make sure battery cables are heavy, 6 volt cables. Skinny 12 volt cables won't carry the amps required at starter-assure all cable connections are clean and corrosion free-run the ground cable directly to bolt holding starter motor, making sure of metal to metal contact-have starter rebuilt if neededSix volt cars start fine if connections are good with correct cables.Oh, and really nice car you have there! Guest John Spinelli
Thanks for that info David. I'll take a look. Someone mentioned an 8 volt battery that would be suitable and increase the cranking amps. I never heard of that.
Bleach
8 volt batteries were common at one time but these days I've only seen them at battery rebuilders. If you used one, you'd need to adjust the regulator to have it charge enough for the battery. Most 6 volt systems I've seen seem to cut out around 7.5 volts or there about.Best just do what Trimacar suggests.BTW, nice car!
aussiecowboy
Very nice car! Battery cables need to be thicker for 6 volt than for 12 volt as trimacvar said and they are very very sensitive to bad earths.
