stude1946
I'm selling a set of spoke wheels off of a 1962 Studebaker Hawk. These are originals not reproductions. They are 15"x5 1/2" and will need restoration. There are 6 wheels and 4 spinner hubcaps (also metal originals). I'm looking for $450 for all. These should fit Chrysler, Ford, and Studebaker. They are 5 hole pattern. The hubcaps are the pop on style (not threaded). StillOutThere
These did not originally come on your Studebaker as Stude never offered real wire wheels postwar. So where did they come from? They appear to be Chrysler and DeSoto wire wheels and if so they were made by Motor Wheel Co. Assuming the "spinner" caps you have are the Mopar style, these are Motor Wheel wheels. That said, we need to know where the wheels are located because they are heavy and expensive to ship. And we also need to know by photos how pitted the spinner hub caps are.Yes, everyone calls ALL wire wheels Kelseys. That is simply wrong - Chrysler Corporation cars ALL used Motor Wheel and the bolt patterns are all 5 on 4.5 (except for the big Imperials which have a 5.5" bolt circle. roysboystoys
One of your wheels is different then the rest , is there a number stamped somewhere on the inside rim or back side , oraround the bolt pattern. May be some one needs that wheel.
stude1946
I got a chance to clean the wheels and found the following info. They were made by Motor Wheel (stamped on the inside rim). They would original be found on 1955-57 Plymouth, Desoto, Dodge products and are quite a rare option for those vehicles. I found them mounted on a Studebaker Hawk so they match the Mopar, Studebaker, Ford hubs. They are all 15"x5 1/2" . One wheel has a different spoke location on the inside rim. The other five are alike. They could be cleaned and replated. If powder coating or painting is desired they could be sandblasted. The 4 knockoff caps have 1533283 on the underside of the cap. These wheels are commonly called Kelsey-Hayes even though they are made by Motor Wheel.
