Ben Bruce aka First Born
Guys, I am trying to remember a forum member from TX, with a 1937. Near where Pete is. He talked about getting 17 mpg, making a trip, and has modified an HEI distributor to fit. I have tried, to my limited abilities, searching, but have not been successful.Any help will be appreciated. Thanks Ben
1939_Buick
Google:- "1937 HEI site:aaca.org" result--> http://forums.aaca.org/f165/finally-17mpg-323022.htmll which has a link to http://forums.aaca.org/f165/straight-8-hei-316211.htmlMany modifications. Changes were to 12v with alt., a very shallow rear, a 2.73, which the 52 263 straight eight handles with no strain, 225/75R15 radials inflated to 38psi, sunvisor and outside mirrors removed, all fluids now are synthetic, HEI electronic distributor with plugs gapped at 0.060, thermostat is 195, two inch exhaust with low restriction muffler (but not loud), both front and rear ends aligned since rear now has trailing arms to hold in place, and tuned on the chassis dyno with the air/fuel ratio of 15:1 being the target. It has the a/c heat combo but with the torque of this engine I think it will still hover near the 17 figure with the cold air blowing--a must in Texas.
