Guest steveam
I have recently bought a 1940 olds that needs a complete restoration. I am starting with the engine. It supposedly ran when put up in 1994. The engine was drained of coolant. I have checked compression and it is good. My problem is it is a positive ground 6 volt system and I can't get the coil to create a spark. I have replaced the coil and condenser. If I measure voltage at the coil to distributor I get 6 volts. I am assuming that the coil neg terminal should go to the distributor? I have the battery positive terminal connected to the ground of the starter. I even tried connecting the battery directly to the coil but still couldn't get the coil wire to create a spark. I am sure that I am the problem here but I am not sure what to do next. Rusty_OToole
good luck with it.If the car has been sitting a long time you may need to clean the points . Give them a shot of electronic contact cleaner and drag a strip of white typing paper through them.
