Hello, can anyone help me to check if I have the right motor for a skylark ? I have 2 project cars, one never apart, the other one has been apart. On the one that has never been apart it is an early car and the engine id. # is V 345907. On the one apart I want to make sure it is the correct 1953 engine it is a late car and the engine # is V2170447. Just trying to make sure it is in fact a 53 motor and not a 54. Thanks for any help.

The 1953 range is V2001X to V273955X or 2001 to 273955, so both of your engines are from 1953. The V indicates V8 and X is the series digit (7 in both of your cases). In 1953 the Skylark was part of the Roadmaster line (Series 70), so it's at least possible the engines could be from a Skylark.

Sean, thanks for the info I appreciate it . I wanted to be sure because the transmission in the early car is code marked j , which according to the manual is correct and on the later car it is code marked L which is incorrect for a 53 . So it looks like I need to find a J coded transmission.

Thanks again.

car53. Before you will buy another Dynaflow with J code just check out if your car is a late 1953, I don`t know but the maybe they changed D:F to L in late 1953.Try finding other 1953 owner and ask them about their Code.

Leif in Sweden.
