Bill Stoneberg
I have been asked a question that I cannot answer because I do not have the distributor out of the car.To quote the letterI have a technical question regarding a part in a 1953 Buick straight eight engine (it is the original engine). The part is the shaft that drives the oil pump and leads up to the distributor. I have purchased two of those from the same supplier and they have come in different lengths. My question is: How long should that shaft measure fromthe top tip to the bottom of the attached gear?My problem was just discovered as the first shaft and gear was not long enough to drive the oil pump when the engine was at any rpm other than an idle. Two rebuilds were destroyed before the problem was discovered. Can anybody help me with this I am assuming the 263 engine from 1950 - 1953 would be the same. Thanks
