Chrysler Airflow sales and price stats wanted

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for sales numbers and prices of Chrysler and DeSoto Airflow models compared with non Airflow Chryslers and competitive makes.

For years I have read how the Airflow was a flop. I believe this to be a lie spread by rival car makers. My view is that the Airflow was conceived as a radical, range topping specialty model that was never meant to be a mass seller. As such it was very successful. In fact every car made after the Airflow, was more or less a copy of the Airflow. Making it a technical ground breaker as well.

To prove or disprove this thesis I need to look at Chrysler sales and price figures for the period 1930 to 1940. Does anyone know of an online source for this information?

I don't know of an online site, but this book (Standard Catalog of Chrysler 1924-1990) gives prices of the models and production numbers. I also believe that the car companies that were not as advanced as Chrysler were the starters of the "Airflow was a flop" ideas.
