Truing Wire Wheels

Is it possible for a layman to true up wire wheels? I have 19-inch Buffalo wheels (on a Duesenberg) that were redone in the early 90s with new stainless spokes. The wheels are now somewhat crooked, perhaps because the car sat for years without being moved before I bought it recently. I used to true up bicycle wheels, so was curious if it's possible to staighten wire wheels by adjusting the spoke tensions yourself. Any advice?

Sure it is. Just figure a way to spin the wheel and set up a dial indicator. Time consuming but not particularly difficult. They need to be true within 60 thou or so. A possible difficulty may be galling of your stainless spokes and nipples making them virtually impossible to turn. If you do get them all loose be sure to use anti seize on the threads during reassembly. Buchanan Spoke and Rim in California can provide you with a properly sized spoke wrench as well as new spokes and nipples if you need them.
