RWPerry Posted March 9, 2011 Share Posted March 9, 2011 When I got my 1925 Business Coupe it had an electric (12V) wiper motor on it. I have tried to get it working for several years off and on and finally have it working smoothly. It is nice to have but I do not think this could be original to the car. It is probably an after market or off some other car. Has anyone had any experience with one like this? There are no markings, numbers or identification of any kind inside or out. All of our cars ( up to a certain point of course ) used vacuum to control the wipers so it is not originalI would be curious to know when wipers went to electric in our Dodges if anyone knows, hope this is not considered a hijack thread Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
RWPerry Posted March 10, 2011 Author Share Posted March 10, 2011 The thing that intrigues me is that it is 12 volt and most cars were still 6 volts until the 50's. It mounts on the outside of the windshield frame with the switch handle and the electrical connection inside (through holes in the frame) like it was made for that type of windshield. It does fit very well and does not obstruct opening the windshield. By the time other cars were 12 volts they had dual wipers and the motors were under the dash. Could it be off of a truck? Also the one hosting this years DB Meet in June so be nice or you will be sleeping in your car. I will have to let everyone look at my wiper motor t the meet and see if anyone has a guess, maybe a prize for the best answer.It has been repainted so I assume any identification was probably a decal on the housing that was removed before painting. BTW, what was the popping, snorting, bucking issue with your car? I'm sure you got it figured out. Won't be bringing a car to Moline. Did anyone figure out which state Moline is actually in yet? It was kind of a windshield ornament at that time.As for the problems I had with the car at Gettysburg, I have good news and bad news. The good news is that I worked a lot on the car when we got home and got it running really well. I even took it to an AACA meet and got a First Junior, which was pretty unexpected. The bad news is that I made the mistake of doing a whole bunch of things to the car all at the same time so now I don't know which one fixed the problem in case it happens again. Bummer!By the way, Moline is in the state of Iollindiana in case Joe reads this. In otherwords somewhere in the Midwest. It all looks the same to him.
