zephyrdave
I just bought a 39 coupe project from an elderly gentleman. He said the V12 was rebuilt? At idle it sounds nice and smooth (fairly quiet). When I increase the RPM to say 1500 in neutral, it feels ruff or shakey, almost like it is out of balance. Could it be one or two cylinders not firing?
Paul K.
Yes. If this is a new purchase, one of the first things to do would be a compression test. Factory spec is around 120 lbs. psi. This info will tell you if you have an engine or not. If it is good, then check the usual suspects, spark plugs, plug wires for continuity, vacuum leaks, etc.
Mssr. Bwatoe
The dist has a hidden screw under the little plate on the pass side...it synchronizes the points, just like a boat with 2 engines..only more important..once you are certain you have compression and fire at all 12...you can fool with this ..or take dist off and have it set to spec..The engine has 2 seperate ign systems operating independantly of one another..reliable but tricky to set up..
