hddennis
Just cleaning up my new eBay purchase of 4 NOS American Bosch Magneto Corp. spark plugs for my 1917 Maxwell and ran across something puzzling. All 4 plugs have had the sealing ring at the base directly opposite the logo machined away until it is gone and level with one of the flats. This basically renders the plug useless as the copper has nothing to seal against. 3 of the 4 also have had a hole drilled in the flat and then soldered over. Anyone have any idea why this would have been done?Howard Dennis

hddennis
Nick, that was my thought too at first but a collector would only need 1 example and his alteration would have been years after manufacturing. These are definitely NOS and the paint before I removed it appeared to be the original old Japan black?Howard Dennis
JFranklin
For store displays when new?
rniez
This is definately a modification that occurred after manufacture. I haev never seen anything like this on a Bosch plug. Some plugs have holes for priming cups, etc., but Bosch never made a priming plug.
