  1. Salute to all veterans. It seems that WWI is a "forgotten war" We originally celebrated Armistace Day to honor all who fought in WWI then changed it later to "Veterans Day" to honor all veterans, In honor of WWI vets: In Flanders Fields BY JOHN MCCRAE In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie, In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields.

  3. The tradition of the Fairfield County Region was that the car belonging to the meet director was featured on the dash plaque. The meet chairman was the club's vice president. Here is a photo of my girlfriend (now wife) sitting in my Model "A" at Ridgefield in 1979.
  4. It seems like the consent decree filed did not favor AACA. I also realize AACA does not want to publicize it. It is likely York has a difference agreement as it is only open to club members and with few exceptions to the general public. About 20 years ago, I was told by an AACA Board member that all the Board members had carts. Since this is not true I apologize for my statement. Keeping in shape is fine, but I have peripheral neuropathy which makes walking for long periods a real challenge. I've lost 60 pounds in the last two years which admittedly does help a lot.
  5. I think you are right on with your observation. I constantly see people on many forums asking when it the "Hershey car meet". If they were members the info is Antique Automobile. I'd go a step further and say that they don't even know it is an AACA sponsored meet. Most AACA meets have small flea markets and don't attract large crowds. From my perspective, many of these TV personalities are narcissistic jerks.
  6. Peter: Why do you need 200-300 security guards? You just need one or two at each field entrance. The cost could be covered by raising the cost of a space slightly. I vend at the York train show and this is what they do-York Fair police at every entrance and none of the issues of Hershey. If I tried to enter a hall at York with a golf cart there is NO WAY that would happen. Steve: I realize you have been very responsive, but I thought your comments represented National, not Hershey Region. I would like to understand what the content is of this ADA agreement with the Commonwealth. Again, York only rents and allows mobility scooters and restricts golf carts etc. I don't understand how this can be except for specific negotiated plans with the Commonwealth. I understand that people cheat. The vendor across from us starts drinking a 10 am. They use the space as a gathering place as they don't sell in the flea market but have spaces in the car corral. They have six man golf cart to go back and forth - in the afternoon loaded with drunks. The guy next to me offered use of his golf cart to us as we needed to go several fields away. When I asked how he got it approved he said he didn't, he just drove it on. At one time, every person on the National board got a golf cart. Is that still true and do they really need them? I realize a lot of National business occurs at Hershey. I'm not trying to be difficult, but I am trying to understand why York is so much better. Are train collectors just better behaved? I'll get down from my soap box. I know everyone is trying and it is sad people can or won't cooperate.
  7. We have been debating the same issues on the forum for years. The one item I would like to see is for Hershey Region, whether directly or through National provide their position on these issues. They have been silent for years.
  8. We have been going to Pizza Sorrento since it opened. Food is excellent and we are fussy - highly recommend.
  9. Thanks for taking the time to respond. In #3, I wasn't clear. Since there is parking for those with motorhomes, any motorhome on the flea market field should be required to have a full set of spaces with more than one or two boxes for sale. IIn #4. the answer is to enforce the existing rules. The problem is that this goes on every year and nothing changes. I would love to hear Hershey Regions response but so far silence.
  10. I have some thoughts about why the flea market spaces are sold out yet there are so many empty spaces. 1. Could it be that vendors are unhappy with they're current spaces but are not willing to permanently change to new spaces without trying them out. You pre-register for your current spaces and also register in August for more spaces, In effect you have two spaces but only use one. When you decide which you like better you don't renew the one you don't like. You could do this for years until you find the right space. You can't blame Hershey Region for this. 2. There is a domino effect it the flea market. Customers come, see the empty spaces and stay home the next year. Vendors see low spectator counts and decide it isn't worth selling so they stop coming. As a result, show shrinks a little every 3. It would be a big help if a section for motorhome parking existed. People use flea market spaces at Hershey for motorhomes out of convenience so they can be close and save cost/hassle of a trailer park. 4. All of this hoopla about golf carts, etc, could be resolved if the rules on the books were enforced. Here is an example of random enforcement. The vendor next to was confronted by Hershey Region because he had some parts in the aisle and was asked to move them. He complied. Meanwhile, the vendor across the aisle was partying away: loud music, drinking (Martinis at 10) etc. ,which went on all weekend. They had an illegal 4 person golf cart. One of the women was acting like a circus barker selling some product. It appears that all of that is OK so long as you don't block the aisleway. Why can' Hershey region hire some Hershey Parks police to enforce the rules a the entrance to each field? We do the York TCA Meet 2 weeks after Hershey and none of this goes on because rules are strictly enforced. York fair police do the enforcing. Example: You cannot leave York on Saturday before 3 PM unless the meet chairman ok's for an emergency, etc. If you leave without permission, they send you a warning letter. After two letters you lose your spaces permanently. The show is great-totally organized with none of the hassles of Hershey. They control the golf carts by the way.(And you can rent a handicapped scooter for half the price of Hershey.) York is in Pennsylvania, and they restrict golf carts and ATV's -why is Hershey different?
  11. Another game board, this time the complete game. This a Milton Bradley Formula 1 game from 1863. My wife found this on a Saturday at Hershey on the orange field while I was judging. We met up at judge's parking and told her I didn't didn't care I just wanted to start the five hour drive home. She was persistent so I finally just double parked on the exit road and I went to look for it. I'm glad I stopped. Sorry for the so-so pictures but it's hard to find room to photograph it.
  12. Two more. One is a duplicate of Terry's that is nicely framed.

It was the inaugural race. Race was won by a Sunbeam VIII driven by Chassange/Laly. Bentley was second, driven by Frank Clement. 100 years ago.
  22. This topic has been quiet so I thought I would revive it with some "go withs".
