Guest grnpunk8
I just got a 54 Buick, and can't find the VIN tag on the car. I checked the door pillar, but didn't see anything there. Is there anywhere else it may be located? The title lists the number as V5765836--does anybody know how I can decode this number? Thanks.
Guest El_Diablo
This code is the engine number. The 6 at the end indicates that this engine belongs to a 1954 Buick Century. The body tag could tell more about your car!
Pete Phillips
Open the hood and look at the top of the firewall, passenger side, for the data plate. It will tell you the model #, trim #, paint #, etc.Pete Phillips, BCA #7338Sherman, TX
MrEarl
Some states use to and still will use the engine number as the vin for registration purposes. If you are needing to find that for registration requirements look on the driver side of the engine just below the exhaust manifold. The number is stamped on a flat surface of the block about mid engine. See pics belowFor info about the data plate and vin, click here > Body Tags/Codes Deciphered!! Dstroberg
Mr Earl- Thank you for the info on the vin location above. My father restored a 1954 Buick skylark and I’ve spent several hours trying to locate the vin. He also fully restored several 1953 Buick Skylarks which we were able to find the vin, but per the pictures below, are we looking in the wrong spot? Any suggestions on another location we might be able to find the vin? Thank you in advance.
MrEarl
I believe you’re looking in the right place but perhaps it was painted over? Maybe dab some paint stripper on that area. And that would be the engine serial number. Some states used them as vin back then. What I consider to be more the vin is on a ss plate on the drivers forward door frame. Hope this helps.
