Red Plastic Inner Fender Liners

Hey folks.

My 1966 GTO has a set of these liners installed. It was a relatively rare option and only offered for a short time, I believe mostly on A body Buick, Olds and Pontiacs.

They are in pretty good shape, and I cleaned them to remove old bits of tar and other road goo, but could use a bit more work to make them look new.

Has anybody redone a set of these? I was thinking perhaps a scuff and then dye job with the same stuff used to do dash pads may do the trick, but I am unsure if that is the way to go.

I asked this question about a year ago and got a few tips, but just seeing if anybody else has any ideas.

Replacements are very expensive, and I'd like to keep as much original to the car as possible.

I think Oldsmobiles used these too, you might post in the Olds General section to catch a little more attention. Good luck, Todd C

Actually, Olds W-30s used complete red plastic inner fenders, not just liners that went over the metal inner fenders (I never understood why Pontiac did that). It is possible to paint them, but it takes careful preparation and use of the proper materials for painting plastics. Of course, any stone thrown up by the tires will damage the paint. It may be easier in the long run to get repros.
