chuckfmtexas
The Pate Museum collection of approximately 40 cars was auctioned yesterday by RM Auctions. You can see the cars at the RM website www.rmauctions.com . There is not list of sales on the RM site but the local paper here reported $1.9 million per RM. There were 12 cars other cars also sold at no reserve, 4 from a Texas collection and 8 from a California collection. Overall the prices were strong including $10,500 for a 1924 "T", $17,500 for a Model A Coupe (a bit strong for the car, most thought it was worth 12K at best) Some very nice 50's and 60's cars including the Checker cab that carried Harvey Oswald after he left the School Book depository in Dallas following tghe shooting of Kennedy. It sold for $35,750.Top Sellers:1935 Aston Martin MKII Tourer $ 187,0001934 Pierce Arrow Silver Arrow V-12 $ 139,700 (1987 AACA National Award) 1967 Shelby GT500 Fastbacl $ 99,0001903 Cadillac Model A Runabout $ 99,0001929 Rolls Royce Phantom II Boatail $ 85,250 (Tourer)Lots of other nice cars and I was fascinated by a 1941 Mercury 4 door with 13,000 original miles, belong to a 94 little old lady in California. Beautiful condition and sold for $20,000 plus 10% buyers premiumThere were some nice Packards and a Cadillac from the early 30"s. Nice thing about these cars is most of them were sitting in the museum for the past 30-40 years and other than dusty and dead batteries most were in great shape for driving or restoration.Chuck

alsancle
Generally these types of museum clearance sales do very well. Of course you need to see the cars in person to know for sure what the deal is but 99k for a 67 GT500 and 139k for the Silver Arrow seem like good buys on the surface. trimacar
That was a neat little museum, went through it many times, both when the swap meet was there, and on a few Texas tours. One of the tours was a Pierce Arrow Society meet, and we drove through the rolling hills of Texas to the museum site. I had purchased an unrestored V-12 production Silver Arrow, and the museum had just finished the restoration of theirs, so it was interesting to see what could be called a before and after. It's sad that it met the fate of so many family owned museums, but with fair prices paid, one would think the cars are in the hands of good caretakers, and maybe some of them will be dusted off and used. I'll bet the Silver Arrow had few miles since restoration so many years ago (restored in the 80's).
