DSpringer
I'm stripping the body of my '41 sedan completely in preparation for paint and the only thing I can't figure out how to remove is the front door locks (exterior, below the door handles). Any tips out there? -Dave
peecher
Dave , there is a small hole in the inner edge of the door at the same level as the the lock cylinder. Insert a small ( 1/16"?) allen wrench thru this hole and into a set screw that retains the lock cylinder and remove the set screw. You can then remove the lock cylinder. b6vt
Dave, To save yourself some grief, get some of the best possible penetrating oil--I don't know what that is, I've tried them all I think, soak this little set screw for about two weeks before you attempt to loosen it, other wise it will strip out and the only solution to the problem is to drill it out. That set screw is next to diamond in hardness. I've had the experience on my LC '48. Glenn Lorei b6vt
DSpringer
You guys are terrific. Thanks for letting me in on the secret. I never would have guessed. I'll Kroil the crap out of it before I lay on the allen wrench.Addendum: The screws came out without a hitch. b6vt
I am curious did the Kroil work--did you get the set screw out? Glenn Lorei b6vt
DSpringer
Yes, I let the Kroil penetrate for a day and the slotted set screws came out as if they were brand new. No problem at all.
