Deduction for battery

I plan to replace the 7 year old Delco replica with a new battery. I can get a plain black top battery that looks correct for the late 40's early 50's, 6 volts at a reasonable price. Is there a deduction under the AACA system for incorrect manufacturer?

If the battery is incorrect, you face a 3 point deduction. I cannot tell you if judges will notice or not, but I would assume that they would, so how important are those 3 points to you?

Additonally, one point can take you out of the running for a higher award. You must make the ten point spread from the highest scoring vehicle that gets a first, second or third, whichever one your vehicle scores the closest behind.

I checked page 24 of the AACA Judging Manual and it states that "specific brand is unimportant". So I suppose that you can lose up to 3 points but none of these could be for a brand manufacturer that was not original.

Am I correct?

I believe that "The specific brand is unimportant" was a change last year.

The full text is:

Batteries may be of modern manufacture,

but they must be visually of the era

of vehicle manufacture. Specific brand is

unimportant.

I think that "visually of the era of vehicle manufacture." are the key words.

If it does not look like the original battery, (regardless of the manufacturer), you could lose up to 3 points for it. It is perhaps confusing how it has to look like the original battery and yet a specific brand is not required. If it obviously looks different from what came in the car originally, I think you will lose 3 points. It is your call, but I don't normally give up many points willingly.
