Dantheelectraman
I have an original 62 Bonneville with 30,000 miles. The transmissin has not been apart. The spec is for Type A ATF which I understand to be non-detergent. I've been cautioned against using Dextron or other ATF's with detergents. What are folks using in original Hydramatics instead of type A, which I cannot find?Dan
RO
Cannot say what might have changed from 1954 to 1962, but I have cars 1951, 1953, and 1954 with Hydramatics and use Dexron III and have done so for up to 14 years in one of them. I saw on another forum where Type A may be obtainable at http://www.coastaltransmissionbeaufort.com/ in Savannah, Ga.
Jim Cannon
Dexron III is a compatible ATF to use where Type A is specified. That is what I use in my '63 Buick. If you look around you can find Type A, but there is no need to do so.

Owen_Dyneto
Many folks with Packard Ultramatics which called for Type A use Type F or FA.
RO
I use Dextron III in my '53-56 Packards with Ultramatic.
bill pritchett
I have a 50 Olds and when the new Dexron came out I looked at it and read that it was compatible with all transmissions back to 49. So you can safely use the Dexron's.
