vergil
1. Excessive play in fan-fan hitting radiator.2. Car will not idle slowly-starts at fast idle but does not retard.3. a sound which I can best describe as intermittent"clicking"- seems to be coming from drivetrain.Took her out for a spin this morning and after a couple of miles the vacuum tank ran dry.I think this was because of the very fast idle. Any help is greatly appreciated as my skills are limited to advice received.
nearchoclatetown
1. sounds like you need to take your fan apart and replace the bushing. 2 The fast idle MIGHT be caused by a vacuum leak, which MAY be causeing you tank to not work.Start it and check around the intake with an UNlit propane bottle, if engines speeds up that's the leak. 3.Where is the clicking coming from? Is everything lubed as it should be?
vergil
Thanks, Doug!1. The bushing seems to be o.k. It looks like there was a pin or cotter pin holding the fan back from sliding forward. Whatever it was has worn away.2. I'll check this. (Checked this-no leak)3. It's really hard to tell except that it's coming from underneath the car either at the center or passenger side. A couple of weeks ago I relubed everything. As I indicatedd, it is intermittent and only happens when the car is underway.
nearchoclatetown
Can you put one or both sides up on stands and run it in gear. I KNOW, the safety book tells you not to do this!! Don't go under, just listen carefully from the side. My neighbor's throwout bearing made soem strange noises because it wasn't lubed.
