Oil Filter installation on a 25 DB

Has anyone put a filter on one? If so what is best to use and is it connected in the oil line before the pressure relief valve or after it ?

Hi,

I would seriously recommend against such an endeavor. Remember this engine is NOT a pressurised system. The oil pump is simply filling those resoirvors in a plate in the pan for the rods to dip into. Any restriction in that line could cause a problem. Why not simply change the oil more often. Also, that 'pressure releif valve' is not. It is simply a check valve to keep the oil pressure gauge line from draining back into the pan when the engine is off.

Thanks.. Thats the info I was looking for.. The engine has never been apart.. 14000 miles total on car.. lot of gunk in it.. any good suggestions for cleaning it out without taking apart.. Runs good but burns some oil..

Can you pull the oilpan off easily? The last one I looked in had about 3/4 inch of crud in it.

Pull the pan.

OK.. I am going to pull the pan and the pistons and give a through cleaning. It does burn some oil in cyl 1 and 2 so I guess the rings are stuck from being 83 yrs old. Is there anything special to look out for when pulling the pan?
