Brake line quagmire

Recommended Posts

WELL...my drivers side rear brake line ruptured and my mechanic is in a state of shock as to how to replace the line. He is mumbling something about having to take the transmission out to get at the line...he is taking a Prozac just to settle down. Any advice would be appreciated.

Find another mechanic that is doesn't need Prozac when confronted by a small problem. If the line ruptured in an inaccessible location have him route the line a different way. He may be wanting to keep the car absolutely stock but to do so at the expense of taking out the transmission is ridiculous in my opinion. If you have a really low mileage show car you might want to keep it 100% stock but otherwise find a new mechanic.

I doubt a line ruptured up there. Even if it did it is not a big deal. They are very prone to problems in the back near the proportioning valve. Any marginally skilled mechanic with a ISO flaring tool can get you back on the road in less than a day. I have replaced that tangle of rusty lines (brake and fuel)in the back. It's not difficult.
