spark plugs, 1938 Packard super 8

Hi- I took apart the top end of my 1604 a year ago, am getting it back together to start this weekend (as in smoke coming out the exhaust). I can not find spark plugs in my pile of removed parts; what current plug is correct for this engine? thanks in advance, David Coco, Winchester Va.

All Packards from 1940 to 1953 used AC-104 or the equivalent Auto-Lite P4 or Champion Y4A.Gap .028

Sorry that's all I can tell you, my reference book only goes back to 1940. But I believe they used the same 10 MM plugs back to 1937.

Maybe someone else can confirm if this applies to your 38?

Champion's modern equivalent to the Y4A plug is the UY6. It is a 10MM, 1/4" reach, with a 5/8 hex.

The Autolite website recommends their #3136 for the 1938 Super Eight (and the Eight as well). This is their standard plug, there may also be recommendations for platinum tip but I didn't check.

If they are 10mm, try the AC M-8s.
