Guest ZombyWoof
My power antenna occasionally sticks. What would you recommend to lubricate the outside of the radio antenna shaft? Oil? Stick lube? Grease?
NTX5467
Seems like in the "old days" they recommended wiping it down with 10W motor oil, via a "lightly soaked rag". Just enough to put a thin layer of oil on it, but not enough to collect dust.Amsoil makes a "Metal Protector" that is similar to WD-40 but does NOT attract dirt. It smells kind of like bug spray, though, but works well.Whatever you use would need to be pretty light weight lube. Sticks and heavier grease type products would not work well, I suspect, as they would put too much load on the antenna motor.Just some thougths,NTX5467
68RIVGS
Depends where it's sticking. Could be the metal mast sections, or the nylon cable. Try cleaning the mast sections with 0000 steel wool, and coat with a light application of silicone lubricant.
RivNut
You can also use powered graphite on it. Unlike liquids, it won't attract dust, etc. Look for it where you get keys made. It's also great for speedo cables that are noisy.
