Photos of my epoxy floor. As you can see from the damage the battery was not dry. I am leaning toward the internal short theory. Thanks again for all the replies. I have gained a new respect for batteries. Not sure why second photo is rotated. I reloaded it three times

I agree You can find some great bargains out there. Two years ago I gave away my 94 Monoco diesel pusher with the 8.3 Cummins and 6 speed Allison for 10K. Towed a 24 ft enclosed trailer and classic cars all over the country to shows/tours effortlessly for years. Don't forget the reduced braking capacity and safety of a class B.

Fortunately the hood was open and the force of the explosion appeared to be laterally toward the fender. A little acid staining on the passenger valve cover. Sure made a mess of my epoxy floor covering though.
I may have to rethink my position on maintainers. I have seven batteries hooked up and have been happy up till now. The battery in my rarely driven Mercedes is 10 years old and still load tests ok. I like Joes idea of hooking them up 4-5 days a month.-

This was a four year old wet cell battery on a Battery Tender which was several feet away. Can I assume the battery tender created an internal spark? Is the white substance sulfination?

I decided not to renew both HMN and HCC two years ago. Haven’t missed them. I think all of us remember the days when we couldn’t wait for HMN to arrive in the mail.

Great stuff Terry. I have been collecting Breweriana for years and this is the first tip tray I have seen with direct automotive advertising although a lot of Breweriana used generic automotive themes like your second example

Is the face plastic or glass. Is the can metal or plastic. Close up appears to show deterioration which you can expect to continue. On the other hand $500 doesn’t purchase much in the advertising world today. Point out the flaws and present a low ball offer and work from there. From your initial post he has had this available for over a year and not sold it and I doubt he has been holding it just for you. I would probably try to buy it but loosing $500 doesn’t bother me much if I like it as it is offset by gains on purchases from the 70’s and 80’s. If you are a AACA member someone in your club is probably a memorabilia collector. Tell the dealer you are very interested but would love me to show it to an expert before you buy. Let us know what you decide and thanks for posting.

I started going in the 80’s and purchased a fair amount of advertising and parts in the early years. I agree with RansomEli that it has been going downhill since before Covid and 2 years ago I knew I wasn’t coming back. Another loss for the hobby and it won’t be the last. The demise of the Hershey Saturday car show is just the beginning imho.

Correction jdome. Cadillac switched to 4 wheel brakes mid year in 1923 when they introduced the V63.

I appreciate your input as I am certainly not a Texaco expert. Please educate me on how you arrived at your conclusion. I have not seen fantasy items before that on the the base it is stamped "trade mark reg. US Pat off" below each small Texaco. The reverse side of the base is stamped Texaco 7-7-36. Seems like they went to a lot of detail for a "fantasy" casting nor have I ever seen another one in person or on evil bay.

I ageee with Walt re condition affecting the value. From the photo it appeared there is some humidity damage. The offer from Mr Earl appears reasonable to
me and it would be going to a good home where it will be appreciated by a Buick collector.

Stand alone Texaco 30 inch SSP. This has been in my collection for 30-40 years. What attracted me to this sign was the cast iron base

Showed at the Meadowbrook Concours in the past. What a fantastic mansion Even the clear window glass is Tiffany if my memory is correct. I would love to tour it again.

Wolf’s Head was established in 1785 as The Empire Oil Works to produce lamp oil. Over the years it underwent several name changes with Wolfs Head adopted in 1940. 20 by 30 in. SSP stamped 7/54
