  3. They are a bargain because the 429 Thunder jet has a drinking problem. I had one, people at the gas station saw me all the time.
  4. Once the convertible tub was dropped into place. The top part of the factory weld on the door pillar, where it was welded to the flare on the body could be used as a reference. It should line up with the top of the flare piece on the body. Foot of the door pillar should match up to the factory hole in the floor. That was just a body mount in the coupe. But it is a door pillar mount in the convertible.
  5. When the coupe door pillar was removed. It was cut free from the bottom flare, leaving the bottom flare piece untouched. That flare piece needs to attach to the convertible pillar. You can also see quarter panel being cut inside the door jam. Door pillar was removed in a way that just removed the pillar. I thought it would be easier to cut the quarter panel off, instead of drilling out the spot welds that hold the panel to the door pillar. If there was a difference in the fit of the rear quarter from the coupe to the convertible. I want to be working with the convertible jam, and weld the outside skin to that.
  6. Dropping back to this picture. You can see how the convertible door pillar is attached/welded to the piece that forms the flare on the body. The foot of this door pillar also extends inside the car, and bolts down to the floor and the top of the frame rail. In the second picture, you can see that what was left of this area. Was cut out to leave some of it still attached to the bottom of the pillars. This will be used as a reference, in comparing the difference in door pillars. The flared piece is the same on both cars.

  9. Has a nice look. I need to quit looking at this car. I like it to much.
  10. Brace might have been put there because people climbed in the rumble seat on that side. Instead of using the steps. Causing the body to get a twist in it. You can tack weld tabs on the outside of your trunk/rumble seat lid. That over hang by about an inch. This will allow you to place the lid on the body, and not have it drop in the trunk, and sit flush with the body. Watch your gaps on the lid when you have the brace in and out. Don't get farther along to find out you transferred the problem to a different area.
  11. You can see how the outside skin of the rear quarter panel, already has a nice fit/shape to the door skin. That is because the door pillar still has the fold/jam on it. Same shape/location from the factory. Doors can latch right now, door gap can be checked. Door pillar can be bolted/tacked in place. Right where the factory put it. The height of the door pillar and the trunk/body braces. Has not changed, everything lines up. Just the over lapping trunk seal/weather stripping channel, is what is stopping outside skin from laying flat on the back. Both parts, have extra material that can be trimmed off.
  12. Here you can see the top front corner of the quarter panel. It gets trimmed back about 1/8 of an inch. So it can slide into the upper tub section. The rest should just set in place, and over lap in all areas on the body.
  13. With the rear body section cut to have extra material on it. It is ready to be placed on the rear section on the car. All mounting surfaces for pillars and braces are cleaned. If cut right, it should just drop right over the rear section of the body. You can see the edge of old quarter panel running down the door pillar. This door pillar still has the fold for the door jam on it. The quarter panel on the car still has the fold on it going into the door jam. Both pieces have that corner/fold. Knowing that the rear quarter is going to fit/slide under this skin. The very top front corner of the quarter panel needs to be trimmed back just enough to slide inside of this piece.
  14. You can float that out in a few places, and get rid of the brace. Great victories like this call for at least two/three beers.
  15. If I did not have my convertible, I would take a look at that car. Looks like a clean car. Most of the coupes are a super six. Nice looking Commodore coupe.
  16. Is it higher? Or twisted? Also why do you think it is the cowl that has the problem. When sighting over the rear body, it looks like the same difference is seen in the convertible irons. Is the problem in the rear of the body? Go to the front and do the tape thing looking back, over the cowl.
