The ad says black leather seats.

Some folks, perhaps less careful in sentence construction, might misplace a comma,

meaning that description might have been:

Nice straight rare 98 series olds fastback. Straight 8 hydramatic. Black, leather seats. Been stored in my shop for a few years.

or maybe even a missing period:

Straight 8 hydramatic. Black. Leather seats.

On the other hand , it could be a poor description, or a scam?

59 Ford in these colors and overall condition?👍

Skyliner? Yawn. To its credit it isn't displayed in the "Skyliner Stance". Proof that the roof will go all the way down!

As inconvenient as it is to get to the spare tire on these things, it's one of the few cars a connie kit works on.

In addition to being able to actually access the spare tire without hiring a young strong contortionist, having the continental kit frees up a bit more space - sorely lacking if you plan to travel farther than the local Cruise Night. A former owner admits that having the extra weight that far back does add to some "squirrely" handling with the tail wagging the dog.

I like the look - but then, I grew up in the 1950s, and believe some cars look good with skirts and whitewalls too.

  3. I had the identical problem on my 1937 Roadmaster!

Each time I drove 30 miles, I had to bleed a bit of brake fluid from the farthest wheel cylinder and drive another 30 miles.

Expert rebuilt my master cylinder 3 times, but the problem continued !

Turns out - someone, before I bought the car, has incorrectly assembled the master cylinder with a slotted and cupped washer on the wrong side of the plunger rod pushing the piston.

This didn't allow the piston, when retracted, to completely clear the passage, and not allowing all brake fluid to return to the reservoir - and eventually the brakes didn't completely release, and then locked up!

Find an original schematic of your master cylinder, and reassemble it properly -

That solved my issue, and could solve yours.

You don't need a dual cylinder.

  5. Hi Billy,

Congrats on having both a great brother, and the ability to enjoy a vintage car.

"I'LL BET IT RIDES LIKE A CADILLAC !!"

Seriously, wishing you, and your brother the very best.

By the way, in addition to my 1941 and 1954 Cadillacs,

our 1995 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham, newer than yours, is a tour car too.

    Because outside of serious car people there is a belief that a car is unsafe and inoperative unless it has;

Alternator, dual master cylinder, Edlebrock carburetor, incorrect air cleaner, aluminum radiator, pointless ignition and 12 volt system.

Anything less and they think that it can’t be licensed.

Don't forget Disk Brakes, electric fan for cooling the aluminum radiator

KiwiFord………what is your point? It seems overpriced to you? I actually thought it was exactly what an asking price I would have come up with. 50hp 1912 cars are much more desirable and expensive than a 1914. It’s another league of car. This era Ramblers are fast, reliable, and desirable. Find a comparable car……….which would be very difficult…..for any number under 125k.

I completely agree with Ed's assessment.

Years ago on a Reliability Tour, I had the honor and privilege of driving Reggie Nash's Rambler. I've had some nice Brass-Era cars (1912 Oakland, 1914 Buick B-37, and now our 1915 Hudson SIX-40), and agree that this example is in an entirely different strata.

Rare, powerful, properly presented, and apparently not for the "Tire-Kicker".

Congratulations on buying a gorgeous car!  You might consider joining the VMCCA, Vintage (formerly Veteran) Motor Car Club of America.  It's primarily a touring, not a showing/judging club, and you can find some wonderful tours well-suited to your car.

Congrats on getting what seems an excellent car to drive and enjoy!

    Check out VMCCA.org

Absolutely agree per VMCCA in addition to AACA and marque club tours!

Having driven and helped host the AACA Founders Tour (March 17-23) based in Lafayette, Louisiana,

We've just completed two more (2) VMCCA tours:

VMCCA Orphan Car Tour (April 8-12) based out of Decatur, Texas and gave us perfect view of the Solar Eclipse - Our Mercury is an orphan.

My 18th VMCCA Chrome Glidden Tour (April 28 - May 3) was based in Clarksville, Arkansas

This one gave us five days of exceptional touring with our 1954 Caddy convertible on some of the best hilly, curvy back roads we've seen in a while, and took us to the US Marshall's Museum at Fort Smith, as well as the old car museum at Petit Jean Mountain/ State Park where we had attended the June swap meet for more years than I can recall.

VMCCA will also host segments II and III of Old Spanish Trail Progressive Tours,

Grand Junction, Colorado to St. George, Utah, starting May 12th,

and later in November, following the VMCCA Western National Tour in Tucson, Arizona,

Segment IV of the Old Spanish Trail will travel from St. George, UT to Santa, Fe, New Mexico

  9. I've used equalizer hitches for nearly 50 years with a strong level of comfort.

In the beginning I also used a friction anti-sway, but with sensible loading have found it entirely unnecessary - at least for me, and haven't used it in probably 40 years or more.

  10. Surely not identical, but certainly comparable in many ways, our 1937 Buick 80C Roadmaster Phaeton (convertible sedan) is a joy to drive. It easily holds highway speed, a does our 1941 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible coupe. Both are serious cross country drivers and extremely comfortable.

Follow and strongly consider much of the great advice offered in prior posts, but mostly decide if you want the enjoyment, or are more concerned about financial impact.

Follow your heart, as well as your head - but remember, these are rare, and you seem to have many positives going for you with this example.

If you want to get out of the old car hobby with a small fortune,

    start with a large one.

Sorry to learn of another old-school antique car collector passing. The hobby has too few already, and this person sounds like someone I would have really admired.

Marty, is he the gentleman on the scooter in your photo?

    lump,

Herb Singe is on the scooter and wearing the red cap,

Don Boulton is the gentleman on the left with the white name tag.

A pair of luminaries in the hobby.

    Thanks, Terry,

I had intended to also note Herb Singe from my photo, but got sidetracked before completing, and hit "submit".

We also visited Herb's collection and were amazed, not only with the many Brass-Era vehicles, but also the Orchestrions and many Lladros (which Dale and I also collect).
