  1. Charlie, based on the part number you supplied you should be also looking into a 41 Ford convertible for your part.

The number indicates a Ford number...11A iwas used by Ford for their 1941 parts number. I may be wrong in my assumption, but it opens up a wider area to look for this part. If it was strictly a Lincoln Zephyr part number that that part number should start with an 06H, 16H or 26H.

Question...on page 22 of the 1942 Lincoln Body Parts Catalog there is an illustration of the convertible top assembly for Continentals there is no listing for the part number you supplied. Can you point out the exact part you need? Are your top cylinders hydraulic or electriclal with the worm gear set up.? If electric then you might want to check out 41 Ford parts used for their top system.

Try Lincoln parts dealer Merv Atkins in California.

  2. You need also to add these books to your reference library for your 1956 Lincoln:

BODY PARTS CATALOG 1956-1957 LINCOLN AND 1956 LINCOLN MAINTAINANCE MANUAL. Both manuals appear for sale on eBay from time to time. A MUST buy for your Lincoln. The BODY PARTS catalog has the patent plate breakdown info you are asking about,

  3. I think that the data code numbers you posted are not totally correct.

BY76B signifies that it is a 1956 Lincoln Premiere convertible

25 is Desert Buff paint code

630 is the trim code for Starmist White and Desert Buff Leather (windlace Change)

No listing for the rest of the numbers.

According to the parts book patent plate breakdown info, after the numbers 630 there should be a letter which standds for the month of year (built) code, then two numbers which stand for day of month (built) and finally a rotation number (place in assembly line). Your number 823 and 311 don't appear on the patent plate. Look again.

  4. MarkG: Dave Cole the current editor of the LZOC magazine started a registry of 1940 Lincoln Continental Cabriolets and published the registry in the LCOC Continental Comments magazine # 95, (the winter of 69), on page 13 liists your car as being built March 18, 1940. The condition listed in the article says "generally good: rebuilt 48 Merc engine. Owners name was a Richard Brown of Studio City, Calif. Hope this helps. John

  5. All good suggestions in the answers. Gold Macoid is just a pale gold color plastic type finish on the door handles and dash instruments. I am willing to bet that most of the restorations use gold plating as a substitute. Suggest you email Tom directly for more information.

  6. Hi Mark, welcome to the LZOC Owners Club. Your VIN number is the vehicle serial number and is stamped in three places on your car: on the drivers side frent crossmember landing by the drivers side water pump area and starts with an "H". It is also stamped on the drivers side rear frame somewhere below the gas tank filler tube area and finally it is stamped on the top of the transmission rim above the cutout on top. If the tranny is original then the tranny number willl be the same number as stamped on the frame. There is NO engine number as Ford didn't stamp the engine since engine replacement was sorta common in those days and dealers wouldn't have to change titles every time an engine was replaced.

06H indicated a 1940 LIncoln car year. 56 was the body style and 194 is your body number on the assembly line.

You need to send this information to Dave Cole the LZOC magazine editor who has a roster of known 1940 Lincoln Zephyr Continentals and might know it previous history.

HAve fun, put the top down and enjoy the Zephyring world.

  7. Hi.

More information from the data plate is needed to give you the complete story on your car. The number you have posted breaks down as follows: 56 (year of manufactur), WA is the symbol for the assembly plant which is Wayne, Michigan), the following 5 digits are the vehicle serical number and the L stands for Lincoln.

The data plate will show the body style, paint color, interior trim, and the conv top color. Publish those numbers and they will show the additional information you are asking about.

Great vehicle and a great purchase. PUt the top down and have fun. You wil lbe envied.

  8. Scott, the air cleaner illustrated in picture #1 is THE correct dry type air cleaner used on 40 and 41 Lincoln Continental Coupes and Cabriolets. The air cleaner in picture #2 is the optional oil bath air cleaner used ONLY on Zephyrs. Will not fit under the LC hoods. You have the correct dry type air cleaner.

The intake manifolds on Lincolns from 1936 thru 1948 are the same are the same physical size for all models. They differ only in the carb mounting pedestal . Until the late 1941 the carbs were mounted with three mounting bolts. Late in 1941, 42 and 46-48 the pedestal were change to four bolts to mount the carb. I believe this was due to the change in the location of the distriutor vacuum line fitting to the base of the carb from the fitting in front of the pedestal.
