  1. Ron, send the info on your car to Dave Cole, our fantastic TWOZ editor who has a running log of the whereabouts of known 1940 LC Cabriolets and Coupes. Dave does not use a computer so just send it in the mail to him. Address is 1119 South Speed Street, Santa Monica, Ca. 93454. John

  2. Ron, once you order your build sheet from the FORD Archives you will find your body number listed...should be either body #141 or #142. Dave Cole's registry lists serial #98362 as havng body #140. Anyway the build sheet will have listed all the extra features your car was constructed with...radio, Goodyear or Firestone tires, upholstry material key numbers ...all the extra goodies. Have fun restoring it. John

  3. Could not find a listing of any hood pad for the 40-41 Lincoln Continental in the master Lincoln Chasssis Parts Catalog or the 36-40 Lincoln chassis Parts catalog or Body Parts catalog. But in the LCOC 40-48 Lincoln Continental Restoration manual on page 46 is says under "HOOD" that 1940-1941 had a black heavy insulation pad with a waffle pattern inserted in the rear most section of the hood between the frame sectins. Probably the same type of a pad that was glued to the insides of the door panels for sound proofing.

  4. Lincoln V-12's never had a serial number stamped on the block Being a Ford product the car serial nimber was stamped on top of the transmission, by the left motor mount and on the left rear frame any number on the block was a csting number. 56H blocks were post war blocks.

  5. Ron. On the LZOC main web page, find the "sources" icon and click on it. Scroll down to Earle O. Brown's web page and click on it. Page 4 of his list show books you will need for your LC. Earle does not use a computer, so you will have to call him directly. Great source of mechanical parts. The other vendors listed are also excellent sources. If one vendor doesn't have what you need, the others may have it. They are also very knowledgable Lincoln people. Members of LZOC who have 1940 LC's (me included) will also help with your problems. Just ask.

  6. Michael, since the coupe windshield is 2" taller than the cabriolet windshield the coupe visor is taller than the cabriolet. 41 body parts book shows a separate visor part number for 16H-56 and separate visor part number for 16H-57. The cabriolet visors were almost all leather covered, whereas the coupes were also covered in broadcloth to match their interiors. Some coupe visors were fully covered in matching interior leathers. A cabriolet visor would not be much of a sun blocker covering a coupe windshield.

  7. I'd check with Merv Atkins for the post war parts. I am assuming the Lincoln parts are beefier built due to heavier Lincoln engine, axles, springs, wheels, tires grilles and front end sheet metal. Locate Merv under sources on LZOC web page. Click on his name. Good honest person to know. and deal with.

  8. Hey Guys...96H 2156 was standard issue on 39 and 40 LZ's and LC's. Listed in the parts catalog as "Guard" (front brake backing plate-splash) assy. Supposedly used to keep water- dust from front brakes. Only used for two years. Mechanics supposedly "forgot" to reinstall them after a brake job.
