  1. Yes! Car #1 (in 1958) 1940 Chevrolet 4 Door, #2 1939 Buick Special coupe, #3 1949 Chevrolet business coupe then had first automatic transmission in a 1958 Impala. In the early 60’s I had a Healey Westland and Austin Healy 100-4, 100-6 and 3000’s. Today I still have a 52 GMC pickup, 1942 Buick Sedanet and a 57 Buick 2 Dr Ht with a factory 3 speed (synchromesh) standard transmission.

Do what Gary did. Only you can save $5 by going to HD or Lowes and picking up a pallet from around back. That will serve as the base. Depending on how fragile, you could get by just strapping the stuff to the pallet. I shipped a rear that I bolted to a pallet. Shipped through Fed Ex trucking. Going to the terminal is probably the best, but if that is not an option you should find a commercial establishment for pickup and also for delivery. The rates are a bit cheaper that way.

Exactly! Locate a pallet! I have lots of sources locally so was able to find one that “was just right” for the door I was shipping! Also as stated “much” cheaper to ship terminal to terminal than home pick up and delivery?

I take pictures of what interests me, typically big Classics and muscle cars.  That probably represents 15% of the cars.  There were lots of Model A Ford’s, Chevys, trucks, etc.

And I for one really appreciate your pictures! It would be nice for some of us that are not as knowledgeable if the car (year and manufacturer) was identified.

Again, a huge THANK YOU for sharing the pics!

  4. I would go to a body shop and ask them if they have any large boxes that panels were shipped in. Then check with Greyhound on line as to their size requirements. They should be able to accommodate a fender I believe. Another option is Fastenal, however they usually require that the item be secured to a pallet. The last time I checked them, they were not accepting shipments to the western US.
